A Romania Motorcycle Magazine
August 2006A long time ago, the seemingly endless American open range was roamed by those with a passion for freedom and nature. They had a tireless spirit of adventure and riding on wild mustangs they were enjoying life to the fullest. Totally foreign to the standard of the so-called civilized world, they lived according to the true values of camaraderie and friendship. Nothing could overshadow their ideals and vision of a free life, usually crowned with heroic hunts and nights spent under the starry sky. Hundreds of years later and dominated by dramatic changes, these people became the symbol of uncompromised living, an American icon. These were the Native American Indians. Today bikers are those that in part lead the same lifestyle and have the same ideals as the Indians of old. Even though the mustangs were replaced by more powerful “iron horses”, the same desire of liberty and spirit of friendship characterizes the adventures of the modern American road.
Through the years I have met dozens of bikers at many different bike events, but I have to confess that when I met Bramscombe Richmond, I was overwhelmed by a strong sense of emotion. I was standing face to face with a man that represented a sacred American image, a legend yet to be. I was expecting to meet some movie star, arrogant and full of ego, but to my surprise, I found something totally different. I had the experience of meeting an extremely pleasant person, open, with a sense of humor, which knows himself and at the same time appreciates others. Someone whom anyone would want as a friend. The nobility and dignity of an authentic American Indian, the biker lifestyle, the passion of a rock’n’roll musician and the talent of a Hollywood actor is all harmoniously blended into Branscombe Richmond.
Looking back, I realize that the movie Renegade, and of course Branscombe as Bobby SixKiller, is the main reason why today this article is written. I always liked motorcycles but Renegade, one of the most watched shows, stirred a passion in me for Harley’s, and ever since I was hooked by the magic of American VTwins. Besides the mentioned show Branscombe Richmond also starred in other movies such as Walker Texas Ranger, Scorpion King, Action Jackson, and Bay Watch. The showbiz world is part of his life and the numerous awards he received are a testimony to his undoubted talent. Part of this collection are the Mr. Showman of the year awarded by the Las Vegas Review Journal, the Best Live Show of the Year (European Festival and Fair buyers Assoc.), USA’s Native American Entertainer of the Year and many others.
His passion for motorcycles doesn’t go just as far as riding; it goes much further than that. He was the spokesperson for the company that built the legendary Indian Motorcycle and in 2005 a new chapter in his life, well as in the motorcycle industry, was opened. Together with partners Robert Page (a successful business man in marketing and management), and Murray Smith (ex-president of the Indian Motorcycle company), resurrected an American Motorcycle legend with the name of American Motorcycle 1902. This is one of the oldest motorcycle companies being established in 1902, one year after Indian and one year before Harley-Davidson. The motorcycles made by American Motorcycle were considered the best hill climbers of the time. The production ended in 1922 and more than 80 years later the factory doors were open again. In 2005 the new model “Renegade SE” was introduced in Sturgis and it will be manufactured as a limited edition for a total of 50 bikes. Currently American Motorcycles 1902 offers six different models from pro street to old school bobbers were introduced. Therefore the owners of these customs will be riding motorcycles with extraordinary historical name, a man with such a great passion for bikes can not stay away from anything that represents the biker culture and that is the case with Branscombe whose presence is noticed at most of the bike events ranging from Daytona to Sturgis to Las Vegas.
The places mentioned are also his favorites for rock-n-roll concerts too. If this is something new to some, I should let you know that Branscombe is a musician and composer of this type f music and has his own band called Branscombe Richmond and the Renegade Posse. 100% “Americana”.
Among all these, “Bobby Sixkiller” founded a radio show called AMC1902 Radio that can be accessed on the internet at www.bikernet.com (also found on www.amc1902.com/music.php ). On the show, interview from the most influential people in the v-twin scene brings a new dimension and charm to this field. His contributions to promote the “Custom Biker Lifestyle” culture are immeasurable as far as what he does and he is the one and only, extraordinary Branscombe Richmond.
